Got really slow today at work so I got to fix a few things on the Wrangler...temp guage was been broken and sitting below 100 since I got the Jeep....here is the fix..

First off temp guage would not move even with the sending unit wire take off the sensor and grounded to the battery....it should peg to the hot side if the wiring to the guage is good...

I took the guage cluster out of the vehicle...tried cleaning the main connector to the circuit board but this did not help....pretty easy to take the cluster out guys!...there is only one nut hold the guage on to the circuit board on each guage....took the tempture guage out and noticed that the copper connectors were all coroded...decided to take them all out and clean the contacts with some sandpaper both on the guage and on the copper connector that is held in place by the nut...also did this to the other guages as they were also discolored.

Also while I had the cluster apart I did a check of the temp guage to see if the guage was ok....doing this check is easy via checking which terminal is marked + on the circuit board you then apply battery power to this terminal only and ground to the center and other size...guage should go to full hot very quickly if it is ok....just a quick tap of the power is all you need to do to check it....don't leave the power on it...this told me my guage was ok so it had to be either a bad wire or high resistence in the wiring to the sensor...

Temp guage now works perfect and runs a tad above one mark below 210 which I think is around 180...I run a 180 t-stat so this is just about right...I also notice that the fuel guage is reading a little different so this may also help in the actual true calibration of the fuel meter as well....time will tell as the fuel goes down.....Got all the guages working now...YEAH! :D

Hope this helps some of you out there will dead guages!

Thanks for the information. I've been trying to chase down why my YJ seems to run over 210 on the freeway. I checked the sender and, according to my chilton manual, the resistance shows good for 194 degrees (870 ohms) so I'll check my gauge wiring for corrosion.

Best Regards,

Cliff
