View Full Version : Intereference w/ RE SOA springs and boomerangs?
I'm going to convert my YJ to SOA and have purchased the RE 1.5" SOA springs with the reverse eyes. I was also planning to switch to shorter shackles using the boomerang style in the rear. Most aftermarket shackles have a support brace in the middle. Since YJ rear shackles have the brace offset to accomodate the frame, and since the reverse eyes of the springs means the main leaf will enter the shackle above the eye instead of below it, I'm wondering if there might be interference between the main leaf and the shackle's center brace when the spring is compressed and the shackle is extended outward - especially with the geometries of the boomerangs. Anyone know about this? Will I need to remove the center brace (some brands have removeable braces)?
TIA,
Roger

I use MORE Shackles in the rear and RE 1.5" Springs, and I don't use the center brace... but I think I could if I wanted too.

Yeah, I was hoping he would reply. Anyone know his email address? I haven't quite figured out the PM thing on this board yet.

Hi Roger,
PM is already in the air. :)
Yep, my 2 youngest kids, Jerry & Joy, & I were at Stu's house in April '01 when he had a get together. It was pretty crowded. I recall meeting several folks from the Phoenix area, many of who were from the AZVJC. We watched plenty of footage from Stu's Rubicon trip if I remember correctly.
Stu, Robert Yates, Dion Bozman (Blatant) & I, did Lower Terminator on Friday when I was there. Then we ran with a group of other folks during the weekend up Box & Martinez Canyon's. There were 2 Mike's there (one of which goes by Hobbit on JU), A guy Joey, and a few others. Wind_Danzer was there too, she came all the way from New Jersey!! :D
As far as the leafs & Boom's go.....I run RE's 1.5" SOA leafs F&R as you can tell by the pics. I run Currie 3/8" Booms in the rear. I did need to remove the center support sleeve & bolt so my leafs wouldn't come in contact with the shackles. My rear diff is an F8.8 w/4.56, ARB, RE anti-wrap perches & RE lower shock mounts.
Feel free to ask any questions you wish! :)
