What trannies and t-cases came on the 1991-1995 YJs? I'm guessing AX-15 and NP231? And the 999 for the auto tranny? Anything fail on YJs that I should know about...might be getting one tomorrow. Are these the same trannies and t-cases that come on the 2.5 4 cylinder aswell? Thanks...
Edit: What gears came on AX-15 powered 4.0s and 2.5s? How about spline count on the t-case from the 4.0 and 2.5? Thanks...

4.0 driveline has 23 splines, 4 banger has 21.
Most prone thing is floorboard rust and the vacuum 4wd system tends to crap out a lot of times.
2.5's come with 4.10's
2.5 has the AX-5 and the 4.0 has the AX-15.
I think that's all of those that I know for sure.

AX-5 weekness is the synchros
Hello,
I think my 95 4.0L 5sp came with 3.07's in the differentials. I definitely had to change to 4.10's with 33's. Didn't want 4.56's since it's my daily driver.
I've had pretty good luck with YJ's. I had a 92 4.0L 5sp stock, then the 95.

I have never had a syncro problem in the 3 ax5's i have had. 2 had gears explode and one had bearings fail. Two other buddy's ax5's had 5 gear explode. Never a syncro problem though.

as stated with 2.5 you will have 21 splines on the transmission, it will be an AX-5 (manual) and 4.10's in the axles
An automatic behind the 2.5 will be a TF904 auto behind a 4.0 will be a TF999. Auto's behind a 2.5 was not offered until 1994.
with a 4.0 you will have 23 splines, and it will be an AX-15, and normally 3.07's in the axles (unless swapped)
both tranny's have crappy syncro's I went through two ax-15's in less than 6 years, before I finally upgraded to a NV3550 from a TJ.
For the 94-95 model year they also went to an external slave cylinder for the 6cyl and if I remember right the 4cyl was pretty much always external.
