Pass on them. 1995 was the last year for a Wrangler to have a D30R.

:werd: Reverse D30's were in all YJ's.

For clairification purposes, notice the differences in the gear patterns between these two. Top is reverse cut, bottom is standard cut. Both of these are D30 w/3.73 & Detroit.

Also, both sets of these gears rotate in the same direction. One set applies torque while going forward against the stronger side of the gears (RC), while the other is opposite (SC).

Well, to be honest, it depends on what axle you are talking about... the FRONT axle, is a reverse cut D30 and the rear will be a standard cut D35..... But, since you didn't make it too clear which axle these gears are for, There is your answer to your question.. it depends on which axle you are talking about.

Wow, interesting thread! Now, if an axle has reverse cut gears, will it always have to have reverse cut gears? Since they both turn the same direction, is it necessary to have the reverse cut gears or could you swap in standard gears?? Just wondering..

Nope, you need to maintain the same cut style of gears. They are not interchangeable.

Another key element is that with reverse cut gears, the entry point of the pinion gear will be higher (above center) into the differential housing. The standard cut gears generally enter the pinion below the center of the housing. I'll post pics shortly so you can see the differences.

The top pic is the side view of a low pinion (has standard cut gears) D30 we were removing from my friends TJ.

The second pic is with the low pinion D30 removed (the one with the diff cover removed), and the differential to the right is the High Pinion (HPD30 w/reverse cut gears), we were getting ready to install.

In the third pic you can notice that the pinion enters the housing much higher than the standard D30.
