 I am about ready to give up....
I'm redoing my sound system in my yj, i needed something to take up my time, so i;m building my own sub box etc.
I bought new 4x6's to go up front like two years ago, since then i've learned how impssible it is to do anything with the dash of a yj, mainly from posts on this forum.
well im in the middle of trying to replace them, the right one went in with a little difficulty, i just took the torx bolts out and pulled the dash back to replace it, the left one however, there is a steel bracket under the speaker as a parking brake mounting point. this prevents your hand being able to get in or out behind the dash, where on the right side, this braket wasn't there and there was less of a problem.
to my point...DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO TAKE OFF THE DASH, or an easier way than what i'm trying to do
I really want to get it fixed cause just with the new right front speaker it sounds soooooo much better than just the 6x9's in the back. The sound surrounds you more and you can't tell it's just coming from the back anymore.
any ideas are appreciated!!!!
THANKS! 0||||||0:gulpbeer:

2 options, take off the ebrake assemble and go from underneath. flip the windshield down to get at the 7 screws holding the dash in place and lie the dash on the streering columb.

:banghead:
it was a pain but i got it! I finally just muscled the grill back enough to work off the nuts to swap speakers.
it sounds soooo much better. sound all around but it's mostly treble, will sound great when i install my sub, hopefully.
thanks, i knew there had to be more bolts in there holding the dash on, and figured you could get to them with the windsheild down cause you can see where the foam seal goes all the way through.
is it true that once you put your windshield down, it messes up the seal and you will have leaks from then on?
thanks for the help!:redwrang:

That left speaker just sucks period! There's no way around it really :banghead: The back of my hands were shread'd big time. I've seen a YJ whare the guy just cut the 2 long bolts off and just drill'd 4 new holes from the dash side a BAM! You see the screw heads, but wayyyyyy... easyer in the long run.

For the drivers side - pull the parking break (3 bolts inside the engine compartment), let it hang down. Remove the trianglular windshield bracket and the torx bolts on the left side of the dash near the speaker. You will be able to pull the dash about a half inch forward which will give you some room.

if i ever go back to the dash speakers this is what i plan to do. i fiqured some black allen heads or torq heads would look decent.

We've had our windshield down about 5 or 6 times in the last 3 months and have had no leaking issues.
Not to say others haven't but, so far so good.

Depends on how you take the roll bar off. I, like an idiot, grabbed a pair of vice grips and wrenched the saftey torx bolt off of the top bar. These are the windshield adjustment bolts, and they're a pain to remove for a reason...They shouldn't be removed. The correct way to do it is to fold back all the roll bar padding, and unscrew the torx bolt facing directly towards the windshield.
I put the old saftey torxes back exactly where they were seated...I'm not too worried about it.
