it looks like my seals went on cylinder 3 and 4 and made BIG gouges in the cylinder wall. Took the valve cover off and everythings good, compression it 20lbs and you can see the parks through the spark plug hole. To the engines credit I can still drive it to the garage and back on the 4 cylinders. What I can't figure out is why sitting for 2 weeks would cause this problem to become apparent.

Getting over the fact that it actually happened I'm looking for some advice on where to go with it next. I got an offer on a used 4.2 for 300$... most of the places I saw with rebuilts wanted 1100$ plus. As I see it I have 4 options:
1) Put the used engine in and sell the heep
2) Put the newly rebuilt in and worry again about all the problems coming with age
3) Bring it to a dealer and trade it in for a newly financed car (this one I paid cash for)

or my other option I guess would be to put a nice V8 in it. I heard from someone that there was a 305 block that would match up very easily to the drivetrain... any have a say on this??

I've always appreciated the opinions you all have offered me and greatly value your advice now on this decision.

If I went through all the trouble to do a V8 swap I wouldn't put a 305 in it.
Go for a 350 swap. If I was a Ford guy, I'd do the 5.0 swap.

You've got to consider the condition of your Jeep, and what you have invested in it. If you plan on keeping it, spend the money on atleast a rebuilt 6. Doing the V8 swap will take some time and a lot of effort, but swapping in a replacement engine should be a weekend project.
