Turbo 4.0 YJ??

Has anyone done this or seen this done and what were the results? I used to have a turbo car and loved it but am wondering what a turbo would do to the Wrangler. Turbo's add a lot of torque and the 4.0 already has a lot of it so.....I was just thinking of it today because i was thinkin of an engine swap but that involves a lot of changes...but hell with all that room under the hood, and working with an inline motor, it ought to be fairly easy to throw a turbo in the mix pretty cheaply. I know people that could do this for me but want to know if it is at all worth it and what other modifications I might be looking at. Would the turbo give too much wheelspin once it spooled up? I know traction is key but so is horsepower.

ive had the idea of a turbo for my 2.5 for awhile. i just want the extra power on the highway and mountain passes in colorado. offroad and around town the 2.5 works fine. now that im in ny, and the jeep doesnt go on many offroad trips, ive kinda abandoned the idea. seemed pretty simple with the 2.5. i was going to cut the front pipe off near the passenger side, run it up to the turbo (mounted near the a/c bracket), and right back down, air box on one side, air tube on the other side to the t-body. of couse there is oiling that needs to be addressed also and other small issues. i was going to have a manual control for the wastegate in addition to the normal controls, this way i can open it up offroad so i dont have the boost kicking in when i didnt want it. the basic plan was easy.

Yes, my buddy up in Montpelier, VT has a turbo 4.0L YJ. I couldn't believe it either. It came like that stock as well.

um a stock turbo 4.0 yj? ummm....no offence, but no fucxing way.....not stock!
someone had to have put that on there prior to your buddy's ownership.

I agree, not stock. Sounds like he was pulling your leg :lildevil:. Neat idea, I would like to see the torque curve. I would think a supercharger would give you more boost off idle due to the turbo lag.

Stickers can be made. I could put a sticker saying "HEMI" under my Wrangler sticker, but that doesn't mean it came stock with a Hemi.

It doesn't look like an add on turbo. It looks like it was there from the get-go. I didn't believe it either! It's on a stock YJ not lifted or anything. I thought it was very odd. Guess I still shouldn't believe it: I just got off the phone with 1400 Motors Jeep dealership and they said they didn't do that to YJs.

I may be wrong,but didn't turbo city make a Turbo system for our Jeeps some time ago?:puzzled:
