hey, I'm ditching my beat old XJ and getting a YJ here soon---it's my dad's, he's getting a TJ so I'm gonna buy his YJ from him, its a 95, 89k, 4.0L, 5spd, NP231. I like it. So i'm already getting lift parts from it, and i basically understand the suspension, but I'm not gonna buy any specific kit to lift it, I think over time I'm gonna accumlate parts until I have a complete kit laying in my garage. What I don't know is how do these track bars work??? I know the deal with the swaybars, and how the rear is essentially useless, and how i need extended front discos, but I don't know much in the way of track bars---On my XJ i know what it's for, but they are different for YJ's correct? I'm only going to be suspension lifting 2 inches to avoid getting an SYE and such, so do I need to fab some kinda brackets to relocate the track bars? Also am I gonna need longer brake lines?

I'm going to go with a leaf spring lift, I've heard negative things about shackle lifts, and I want good ride quality, so I'm gonna run BDS leaf springs, stock height greasable shackles, and OME shocks. Also I plan on installing a 1" body lift. I plan on running 32" tires, but i see a lot of people running 33's on the board...with a YJ is it still necessary to beef up or swap out the rear axle for a 8.8 or a D44 like in an XJ, or can I get away with the D35?

I would throw away the track bars, the rear will most likely remove itself on the trail if you don't take it off, I havent seen quit as many front failures though. The only use for the front is to help steering feel so try it without and I bet you will like it. As far as the lift BDS is great but I would go with a slightly longer then stock shackle not only to keep the milatary wrap on those springs from hitting the frame but also to maximize wheel travel with the arched springs.

You may want to consider greasable boomerang shackles. I run Curries, but MORE's are beefier. Mine run ~3/8" of lift, barely noticeable.

The booms help during max flex so the shackles clear the rear crossmember due to their design. They "tuck" under the crossmember & allow the rear leafs to become flatter & add to flex.

Boomerangs might be a good idea---Does Currie also make a greaseable straight shackle for the front, and does it net ~3/8" like the boomerang in the rear or is it taller?

If you run the bds 3.5" springs you will not need a bl for 32's I would run the front springs on al 4 corners though.

Get some longer shackles and you should be good.

As far as the rear axle, as long as you take it easy on it you should be okay. I ran 32's and 33's on my d35 for a while and i ran some hard stuff with it and never broke a shaft.

the bds shocks while not the best are very good for the price.

anything else?

Oh run 6º shims and you should be ok as far as driveline vibes, if not oyu can always get a mm lift

i run the BDS 3.5 with no bl and have plenty of room for 33's, if your buddy gets rid of those flares tho, get them from him and mount them on your yj for some tire clearence. The trac bars are useless, but try them out first and see how u like them. I didnt think the 95s even have a rear sway bar, my 94 didnt. I ran some hardstuff with my 35 and havent broken it, but i do have a scout 44 sitting in the garage awating its new home under my beast. I would go easy on it, and if ya find a 44or 8.8 for a good deal get one, also find some spare shafts for the 35 atleast. I have some for sale in the for sale forum if ya need some :D:D;). Good luck and welcome to the yj club.
