First of all, Hello everyone...
I recently bought a '91 Wrangler with stock suspension and 30" BFG AT's. I had a ZJ before this with a 6 cylinder and 4" lift on 31"s and it still had plenty of power for me. Now that I'm running a smaller engine on a smaller car would the power even out where I could still run around 33s with around 4" of lift? I dont mind not having a great deal of power, but I still need to be able to get up hills decently. I'm not able to make trips to the trails very often, I never do anything really hard though, so it's mainly a daily driver. My budget is extremely low too, so I don't think I could really get into regearing since I have no idea what goes on there or how to do it myself. Any replies are greatly appreciated, I've always had a great time on JU. Thanks

You'll have to regear sport :sousy: with 33's on a 4 banger period, or you'll be 2nd gear'n up any grade.

Is regearing a hard job? I dont have much experience working with axles and related things.

I wouldn't mess with doing the gears yourself. It is more science than mechanical. If you line them up wrong or don't get them seated in good, you can explode your gears pretty quick. Let the pros do it if you arn't real experienced in differential and gearing.

If you have the 4cylinder with a 5 speed. You have the ax5 tranny... That means you need 4.56 gears to run 33's. This will put you in a real good power band for the road and you will have 48.6 crawl ratio which is decent for any trail riding you will be doing... I can run the interstate at 75 and go up hills and down them just fine.. Dont let anyone diss that little engine.. Its all about gears...
