View Full Version : Does anyone in here with a YJ use their bumperettes?

Im sure lots of you all don't but, do any of you? I mean do any of you all thinl that they serve a protective purpose when in a minor accident? Right now, I dont have money for a good solid rear bumper and all I have on the back is a hitch bolted to the crossmember. Would it serve any protective purpose to but em on? Thanks

The only thing I use mine for is a place to mount my CB antenna and the occasional times when I need to get at the top of my Jeep. In any kind of accident they are completly worthless. I also want to put a rock ready bumper on mine, but i cant afford it right now. Especially due to where the gas tank is. If anyone ever rear ends me, Im screwed. the tank is totlly unprotected by those things

I took them off the day I got my YJ, but I had to put them back on for inspection. I'll be taking them off again shortly. If I ever get my rear bumper/carrier that I was supposed to have months ago. :rolleyes:

They can be cut and used for corner guards. :agree:

actually...

I have been hit in the rear of my YJ twice, and they were real good knocks too...

on the first hit, it totaled out a chevy lumina...completely crushed the front of it, my bumperette had a knick in it...

the second, my buddy hit it with his TJ, he lost a front fender,bumper, and all accessories with that, my bumperette bent this time, but if it hadn't been there I would have suffered a lot of body damage...

Both were 10-15mph wrecks, but for what it's worth, i'll run them until i have my new bumper :)

Can't hurt. Think of it that way.
If you really think they're ugly though, you can remove them, I just prefer a little metal before the frame, ya know?

I do. They have my school parking sticker on one of them. I've noticed people have bumped them when parking. If they weren't there they might have bumped my tire and bent my rear door.
