I found a 1995 YJ 4 banger automatic with 166,000 miles on it. The body is in great shape it has a custom paint job dark purple and blue, chrome grill, black soft top looks to be in good shape. The engine has some oil on it but the guy says it never leaks in the driveway. Underneath the transfer and tranny have grease and oil all over looks dried up though. The rear diff has oil on it to. And the tranny slips when cold going from 2nd to 3rd. Do you think I should buy this Jeep he is asking $2500? Or should I just continue build my 98 Sport

Is there more to this? Are you considering selling your 98 or something or has money become an issue with the 98?? From your description it sounds like you might be buying someone elses problem and your 98 you know what you already have.

Is the price fair? Sounds good to me.
Should you buy it? Explain why you want it if you already have a TJ. Unless you plan to build a trail-only rig, maybe. If you swap out the 2.5L and drivetrain, of course. My two cents.

buy it and build it for offroad only, drive the TJ daily (sounds like what your planning) That is a great price for anywhere I've seen, obviously the main reason its so cheap is the bad tranny and the engine that doesnt have a ton of life left in it. If your wheeling to do a little work go for it.

Thanks guys for all the input I believe I will hold off. At least until the TJ is payed for but by then it might turn into my trail only rig:brows:

Hell ya you should buy it. For 1 you will be doing yourself a favor and getting rid of the TJ with all the intricate suspension and problems with trac bars ect. 2nd you are getting a prime vehicle ready for a v_8 swap. Cheap price and high miles, perfect. Now you drop in a new motor and tranny. But wait it gets better. You already will have 4:10 gear!!! :loopyeye: Now all you will need is a Dana44 or ford8.8 in the furture. Go for it brother!! :obsess:
