Just got it Monday, and took it out Tuesday. I was following the break-in procedures to the "t" and the hot light started flahing and I lost power. A guy over at www.sbtontheweb.com said he thought I probably had a minor piston seizure but the dealer seems to think maybe just a loose hose and the hot light kept me from overheatin.

What do you all think? It only has about 4.5 hours on it and I have never had it over 3/4 throttle.

I would hatd to have to have it rebuilt after a whole 4.5 hours on it. BTW, it is a 2000 Polaris SLX 1200, I bought it new and with a 1 year warranty.

That break in process sounds nastey... you didn't go full throttle for 4 hours!! I've only ever rented them and then I didnt' scare so much about it but I was like full throttle all the time :) then again they also aren't the top of the line models..

Crappy man but hopefully they will find it was a factory problem

yeah, the break in SUX! Quite boring. Oil and gas mix 50:1 plus oil injection.

Warm up for 5 miutes at idle, run for 30 minutes under 20%.
Cool down for 30 minutes
Warm up 5 minutes at idle, and 30 minutes under 50%
Cool down for 30 minutes
Warm up for 5 minutes at idel, and rest of tank under 90%.
No WOT and no steady riding

Second tank
Ride normal except no steady throttle at 100%

Third Tank
Ride normal

My brother had a Polaris - One of his office employees was going to take it out on the lake - he started it up and it blew him straight into the air about 6 feet. When he came down he landed in the water - and not on the dock. He was lucky. Gas fumes had accumulated under the hood - and when he hit the start button a spark was caused and blew it up. This machine was new - with less than 15 hours on it. He had a hell of a time with the dealer and Polaris - he finally said F*** you and bought a Sea-Do - it really hauls the mail 62 MPH
