Hi,
I am a new Jeep owner and new to the forum, I have a stock '95 2.5 YJ and I wanted to know how to adjust the idle... In the Haynes manual I got it says nothing, so do I HAVE to take it to a dealer??
The reason is that when I sit stationary for about 10 seconds the idle falls from 700 to about 500rpm or lower and it seems my Jeep is having problems keeping going BUT she never stalls, just gets a little shakey.
So, I changed the plugs and leads and air filter (had oil change etc at dealership) should I also change the rotor thing?
also I took out that cone thing in the air filter but she is still doing the shakes but not as much... the rpm is just as low.
She is great otherwise, great MPG etc....
Any advice would be appreciated....
Thanks
Dave

The idle air controller located on your throttle body is probably dirty and needs to be taken off and cleaned. The symtoms you mentioned happened to me and this solved the problem. There is no adjustment for idle speed on a 95 YJ 2.5. It is controlled by the computer with the idle air controller. It would be a good idea to clean the throttle body while you are at it.

Ok so I had a look at the carb.....
but I am not sure what I should be taking off... the manual is useless...... is it that box shaped thing on the side of the carb where there is a gap in the side of the carb?
I could attach a pic, if you have no idea what I am talking about....
Thanks

I hate to break it to you, but you dont have a carb. The 95 has Fuel Injection, that is just your throttle body.
Here is a good article on replacing the 2.5L Throttle Body with a 4.0L one. Not what you want to do, but it does discribe how to clean up your sensors.

I agree with drjjeep though, a good cleaning should fix things up. You might want to find out if you have a 95 YJ, or a 95.5 YJ. The later has the same engine as the TJ Wranglers and thus any parts for the engine need to be ordered as if your driving a TJ instead.

There is an extra sensor stuck on the throttle body, that is the only way I know of without doing some research. There is a note at the bottom of the article talking about the difference.
Also, in order to pull off the sensors you need a Security Torx Set, they are like normal Torx only they have a hole in the center. You can pick them up an just about any Auto Parts store.
That sight has all sorts of things to do to the 2.5L to get some extra HP and is worth checking out.
