Would a sway bar be needed for SOA on a DD? I have the 4.5 RE right now and dont have the sway bar on and it is fine. What do you think?

I am SOA with 2 " lift springs and do not use the sway bar, and it rides just fine. I would not recommend ditching the front trac-bar however. When I took mine off it became squirrly as all heck.

A little more info: I will be using 2.5 OME leaf springs. Thanks Rockboy for the reply, I will keep the trac bar (I too did not like the way it rides with out it) its the JKS tele track bar so I am good there :D

I have a SOA with a custom built rear trac bar. I run nothing up front (not a sway bar or trac bar) and it drives great. I do have the high steer setup on the front nuckles. It drove terrible before I had the the rear trac bar, like riding a wet noodle. If you do very much wheelin I would defenitly get something for the rear or you could go through a lot of driveshafts from axle wrap. Sorry I dont have any pics to show what mine looks like.

If mine were a DD I would consider them, but since it's not, I run without either up front & no tracbar out back. I run RE's 1.5" SOA leafs F&R. For steering correction issues, I run MORE's SCK (Stage 1 w/drop pitman), & the "mini" MORE block is installed.

I feel tire width & height, plus wheel back spaceing are also portions of the equasion that plays a part in how the Jeep will handle.

I have 33x12.50 TSL's squeezed on 15x7 wheels. My Jeep runs on the heavy side due to other adds such as: winch, tire & can carrier, tool box's blah blah blah. So the stability is effected by this allways too.

I am SOA with RE's 1.5" springs and do not have a sway bar up front on my YJ either. No problems at all.

its so easy to mount a sway bar I don't see why you wouldnt, even if every one says it rides great without one it will ride even better with one.

Except for the fact some us would have to make up entirely new mounts and everything, and it drives fine with no sway bar or track bars. I do have high steer, so that helps.

so your saying you can do a SOA but can't mount a sway bar? and some how high steer helps the suspension perform better on road?

Just joking, but everyone is anti anything that helps on road performance but if you really want something to drive better then "fine" a swaybar is a quick and easy project.

I am going to do the MORE traction bar, and the MORE SCK, So it looks like I wont need the sway bar.... so far:)

I am going to run 35x12.5 MTRs or Pro Comp MTs on 15x8 rims and 4" backspacing. I guess if I dont like it I could always add it later, plus I have the 4 banger with 4.88s = not very fast :D

lol :D , I knew that was gonna come up.

To be honest, since I just finished mine I just want to wheel it first (although enjoy the buildup project, this is one mod that can wait). Plus I have really stiff shocks which help out alot as well.

I am just trying to present a new option for newbies who can't think for themselves (not you) you just had a good post to argue against

nope, not at all
He was simply pointing out that if you have the skills to do a soa then a sway bar would not be that much. The main point of my first post was to just to say that a SOA can drive fine without a sway bar, and that for me the cost do not outweigh the benefits. If I was doing a lot of highway driving, then yes I would probably fab some up.

If i go with a swaybar I will need swaybar discos. Who makes them for 8.5 inches of lift? Do the JKS ones go that high? Does it matter, can the swaybar be tilted down and still be effective?

I run OME SOA and a sway bar.

You don't need discos for 8" of lift....think about it.....the disco can nopw mount to the spring plate which is on top of your springs. In fact stock height ones are almost too tall. I had JKS quick discos for a YJ (they are adjustable) that I use, they are adjusted to as short as they can go.
