Hey, does anybody tow anything with their jeep?

I'm in the market for a trailer, (for a couple 4 wheelers) and would like to know how bad a 3 place quad trailer would be to tug around... Anybody pull anything that might be similar?

i tow about 3000 lbs of boat and trailer. no problem! but, then again, my jeep is probably bigger than yours. 88 grand wagoneer, about 5000 lbs, as is. http://forums.jeepsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif

Ah, yes, see, I was talking about a wrangler.. You would definately have a easier time towing than me!

I tow a 19' Lund around.

Oh wait, thats with my truck. http://forums.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/images/ubb/biggrin.gif

Seriously, the largest load I have towed with my jeep (wrangler) is a 22HP lawn tractor on a 4x8 trailer.

I have moved my boat with it, but I'm talking 4wd low range. No long distances. Easier to park it that way http://forums.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/images/ubb/biggrin.gif

yeah, i kinda figgered that. just being a smart-ass. lots of practice.

i dont think i would go over 1000 lbs. the wrangler is too light and too short (wheelbase).

i have a 98 "little jeep" at home too, and i dont plan to ever put a hitch on it. besides, with the wag and an 82 c-10 i can tow anything i need to.

any other choices in the driveway?

btw, "little jeep" is not a bad thing. when the kids ask which car we are taking somewhere, its "big jeep", "little jeep", "old mini", "new mini", or the "truck". no offense intended.

choices, umm, a T/A. Would that be better? http://forums.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/images/ubb/biggrin.gif

But seriously, I'm gonna try to buy a trailer this weekend, and just wanted to see if anyone has towed much with their wranglers.. I kinda want to get a 3 spot quad trailer instead of just 2, just incase somebody needs a way to haul their quad, and was wonderring how bad it would suck..

I tow with my 97 TJ all the time. I have a 5X10 trailer with a fold down ramp. I have had 2 quads on at a time and its OK. I have also hauled 2000lbs of rock at a time. That is more work.... The TJ will pull it but stopping is another thing. Just give yourself lots of room and pretend you are driving on ice. Lots of room and go slow.
I also have the 4.0 a 4 banger would really have to work.

so 2 4 wheelers isn't too bad, huh? Thats all I really needed to know, thanks.

I used to pull a friends '17ft fiberglass bassboat with his 4cyl s10 alot, the boat was about twice as big as the little truck. It was by no means comfy, but it got it to the lake and back.. So I'm really not too worried about it pulling them, but just curious how bad it will hurt the ride..

Hey Binford, I have a 98 4.0 TJ, 3 quads (2 foremans and a recon) and a 3 place trailer. I can haul it with no problems but I don't think I would make long trips with it, like 100 miles or more. The trailer is quite a bit wider than the TJ and it feels a little awkward. But there seems to be plenty of power. Hope this helps http://forums.jeepsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif

I tow a 1500 pound Jet Ski/Trailer with my 2000 TJ 4.0. I usually run about 200 miles at 80-85 mph the whole way. Never had a problem. Just make sure you get a good hitch

Yes, great, thats what I wanted to hear.. I was just afraid I would be a chore to drive it very far, but its sounds good so I might just get a three spot trailer.. BTW, what size is yours

[/B][/QUOTE]My trailer? Its 8X12, I load the 2 foreman's up front side by side, the put the recon on back cross ways. I have hauled 3 foremans but having the one crossways on back was too much weight to the rear of the trailer. But it works out great for me. http://forums.jeepsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif

I have a 6x8 steel trailer that I haul dirtbikes on. Tows great. I've even towed from California to Washington. It bogged down a little on hills, but thats cause I'm not geared right for my 33's. If you have the 4.0L you shouldn't have a problem.

are you towing it on a boat trailer? i have a 19 foot lund and i can lift up the trailer and move it when its attached to my hitch and its steel, i think a lot of waverunner trailers are aluminum.....
